I came across it when a family member suggested I took a look we are both researching the Eland line of our family and I believe that I have found they do link all the way back to Thomas Eland. I'm enjoying doing what is turning out to be a fascinating lockdown project. If my reading of things is right (and I'm still working on it) then we may have been "done out of the house" by a second wife of Thomas. sadly I think it's well too late to put in any claim :) Shenstonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10998696949225344945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4461618996250470883.post-78131090537479531922020-12-07T14:25:03.054+00:002020-12-07T14:25:03.054+00:00My grandfather Arthur Lapish was Don's father....My grandfather Arthur Lapish was Don's father. <br />Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14610411248401346529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4461618996250470883.post-15751510451328433792019-12-06T13:40:28.908+00:002019-12-06T13:40:28.908+00:00A time-saving tip for anyone interested in Woodcoc...A time-saving tip for anyone interested in Woodcock Hall. Of all the census, only in 1851 is it occupied. Thomas Corkill aged 53, born in Kilpin, with his wife Mary & sons. There are lots of variations of that surname but this is on the original document. On the next 3 census, it is registered as unoccupied. That's what I expected because by the end if the 19C, it has disappeared from the O.S. maps. For any researcher, brave enough to travel further back, Woodcock Hall & Barnhill too, were in the Knedlington parish on the early census. Woodcock Wood just behind Barnhill is still in use as a public footpath, and apparently the odd stone from the old Hall can still be seen in the area.
